A Large Doulton Lambeth Stoneware Bacchus Motto Jug ‘Good is Not Good Enough’

An early C20th circa 1910 Doulton Lambeth stoneware Bacchus motto jug. The jug is formed with it having a tapering body, which has a dark glazed top section and sand coloured bottom half. The jug is covered with applied mouldings, these depict a band of trailing vines, leaves with a Bacchus face mask at the front. Around the bottom half it has a band of small cherubs or putti holding drinking vessels and grapes, all sat in among the leaves and vines. Also mixed in with these is the two line motto of ‘Good is not good enough’ ‘The best is not too good’ The jug has a loop carry handle. It is marked to the base with impressed Doulton Lambeth and some other marks. It dates to around 1910.
