A Georgian Inlaid Mahogany Cased Banjo Barometer Thermometer A Carioli Withby

A Georgian inlaid mahogany cased banjo barometer and thermometer, made by A Carioli of Withby, i think this is Whitby though. The barometer is formed with the case being made from mahogany which has a good colour. Around the edge of the it is inlaid with two different coloured box woods. The barometer has a carved double swan neck to the top. The top window of the barometer is set with a dry/damp section. Below this there is a thermometer set in an arch topped window. Next down it has a convex mirror with a carved surround around this. Next is the barometer section which is largest, this is silvered, with the engraved weather conditions. To the centre of the dial it has an engraved scene of cottages and a castle. It then has a turned knob which alters a hand on the barometer. The bottom dial has a spirit level in it and then it has the makers detail on it for A Carioli of Withby. The barometer has a great shape to it. Opening the back of the barometer it has the glass mercury filled rods in it. The barometer dates to around 1820.

Width 10.25″

Condition
The condition of the barometer seems to be great, may need a service as doesn’t seem to be working. It is missing a section of wood around the edge of the thermometer section. A couple of the dials covers are loose, but it looks excellent and wouldn’t need much to get it going again.
