Description
An Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Fronted Corner Chair Freshly Reupholstered
An Edwardian inlaid mahogany serpentine fronted corner chair, which has been recently traditionally reupholstered in a modern stylized material. The chair is made for mahogany, which has a great colour and grain patination. The back of the chair is formed with three turned columns, and then two pierced back splats. The arms on the chair are rounded, and to the centre of the back there is a shaped back rest. The chairs frame is inlayed on the arms, legs, back rest and back splats with satinwood stringing. The chairs seat has recently been traditionally reupholstered with a modern looking material. The material is beige with large deep purple flowers and leaves set on it. The edge of the chair has then had a studded finish. The chair is raised on tapering spade feet with turned cross stretchers. The upholsterer found an original makers label underneath for Johnson & Appleyard Ltd Sheffield and Rotherham, so she upholstered round it so its still visible underneath. The corner chair dates to around 1910.
