A Georgian Waxed Pine Blanket Box or Storage Trunk, with Candle Tray and Secret Compartment

A Georgian waxed pine blanket box or storage trunk, set with internal candle tray and secret compartment and raised on bracket feet. The blanket box is made from pine, which has a great colour and grain patination. The box has had several layers of clear wax added over the years so has a smooth feel and light shine to it. The box is formed with it being rectangular in shape. The lid has a moulded edge and fits perfectly over the base. Around the bottom of the trunk it has a moulded edge and is then raised on bracket with with a shaped moulding between the feet. Opening the box it has a candle drawer to the left hand side and then lots of storage space. There is a secret compartment fitted with the candle tray. You lift the side wall of the candle tray fully out and it reviles a small full length hidden drawer. On the underside of the lid there is two exposed Georgian steel hinges. The box dates to around 1820 and is a very useful ideal for storage chest, toy boy, blanket box or even in the entrance of the house to store boots and then it’s sturdy enough to be sat on to put the boots on.

Condition
The condition of the blanket box is excellent, with light scuffs and marks. On the bottom of the inside something years ago has leaked on side so it is stained. Easily covered with a base sheet of paper. Overall ready to be placed and used.
