A Victorian Cast Iron Folding Bench or Pew with Mahogany Lats by Unity Wood & Iron Co Pandiham

A great looking Late Victorian Cast Iron framed folding bench or pew set with solid mahogany back rest and seat, being made by Unity Wood and Iron Co Pandiham. The Victorian bench is formed with the cast iron supports being painted in various colours through the years which have worn giving a great patina to them. The are coloured in the whites, reds and light rust, which we have waxed adding a shine but also protect the finish. The case supports are cast with a flower head and leaves to either side. The base of the bench is set with three leaf clove shaped base supports. Each has slender back supports. Each piece of cast iron is marked for Unity Wood & Iron Co Pandiham. The bench is set with a good sized seat and then smaller back rests. All the lats are made from solid mahogany which has a good colour. The bench has the folding seats so could have originally been used in a church as a pew or railway station. But could now be used in a garden, hallway, entranceway. The bench dates to around 1890.
