A Late C19th Early C20th Chinese Shanxi Trunk or Opera Chest

An unusual late C19th early C20th Chinese Shanxi trunk or opera chest, hand painted to the front, lacquered interior. The Shanxi trunk is possibly made from Paulownia as its a large trunk but no great weight to it and the wood feels like a hardwood. The trunk is formed with the outside mainly being lacquered in black. The only side with any decoration to it is the front. The front is hand painted with coloured painted. There is a central panel with floor vases, flowers and trees. This is framed with flowers in various colours. The rest of the front has a figure on either side along with lots of stylised designs. There is also an iron band lock. The interior of the trunk is lacquered in a bright red. The trunk dates to around 1890-1910.

Condition
The condition of the trunk is excellent, light scuffs and marks. Overall a great looking trunk ready to be placed and used as a trunk or side table, storage box.
